Coherix Sets New Standard for Safety-Critical Adhesive Dispensing
PR Newswire
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 8, 2026
Recently developed adhesive dispensing technology delivers significant cost, quality and safety benefits for carmakers and battery manufacturers
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Coherix, a global leader in adhesive dispensing inspection and process control, has developed an industry-first system that continuously inspects and automatically adjusts adhesive application during automotive windshield and battery assembly.
The company’s Coherix 3D GlassMaster Tracker provides a 100 percent inline real-time inspection and adaptive process-control solution for the critical urethane bead dispensing process.
Unlike conventional inspection systems that only detect defects after dispensing, GlassMaster Tracker continuously tracks parts during adhesive application and automatically adjusts the robot path in real time.
By tracking part-to-part variation and automatically compensating for differences in glass shape and battery-cover geometry, the system reduces process variation, minimizes production downtime caused by robot reprogramming, improves product quality and helps prevent leaks and costly rework.
Dwight Carlson, Coherix chairman and CEO, notes that the company’s GlassMaster Tracker has eliminated up to five hours of weekly assembly line downtime for several customers with estimated cost savings of $22,500 per week.
Improperly installed windshields or poorly sealed battery covers present serious safety risks. A securely bonded windshield provides up to 60 percent of a vehicle cabin’s structural strength, helping prevent roof collapse during a rollover accident. Inadequate battery-pack sealing can lead to moisture intrusion, battery failure and, in extreme cases, vehicle fires.
The Coherix 3D GlassMaster Tracker AI-based inspection system automatically adjusts the dispensing robot path to compensate for variations in part geometry, adhesive material viscosity and other manufacturing conditions, nearly eliminating scrap, minimizing damage to adhesive dispensing equipment and maximizing production uptime.
“No other adhesive process control system available today is capable of tracking and automatically compensating for variations in glass shape or battery-cover geometry during the dispensing process,” Carlson points out. “GlassMaster Tracker is also the first solution to provide 100 percent inline real time inspection with full part traceability, giving OEMs confidence that every safety-critical bond has been properly applied.”
The Coherix system records and verifies the dispensing process for every part produced, creating a permanent digital record that confirms adhesives were applied as specified. This complete traceability supports quality audits, warranty investigations and regulatory compliance while providing manufacturers with documented proof that every windshield and battery assembly meets process requirements.
With over 6,000 systems installed since its introduction in 2015, Coherix 3D has inspected millions of customer parts worldwide. The company’s adaptive process control platform represents an investment of more than $100 million and more than 1,000,000 engineering hours, delivering proven technology that helps manufacturers improve quality, increase throughput and reduce manufacturing costs across a wide range of adhesive dispensing applications.
